Splinter of the Mind's Eye is a Star Wars novel written by Alan Dean Foster, published in 1978. It was written to act as a sequel to Star Wars (the 1977 film), in case the movie bombed. Alternatively, Star Wars became a massive success, and George Lucas went on to film more sequels. Splinter of the Mind's Eye became a one-off novel, and its plot threads were abandoned.

lyrics
Heavier, my heart grows.
I was with you and now I'm alone.
And while I wait, I cast river stones,
holding ground against the undertow.
I hope it's true that you want me
as much as I want you.
This summer is my best guess;
I hope you go and make the most of it.
No one knows what's coming next.
I can't steer your heart to the right or the left,
but I hope it's true that you want me
as much as I want you.
Did you hear the song outside?
The evening southern summer lullaby.
I'm praying you don't change your mind,
'cause I don't want a Splinter of the Mind's Eye.
